Cairo,1324, Afternoon
This morning, we have finally arrived at Cairo, our final stop before we arrive at Mecca. The air is full of excitement as I hear clambering, shouting, and people cheering for joy. Although I knew that we had twenty-four thousand pounds of gold, I didn't know that it was enough to give about everyone in Egypt a pound of gold! Because of my social rank being pretty high up, I was given the task of passing out some of the gold, but since I was busy writing, I gave two slaves some money and told them to do the job for me. However, when they were back, I decided to pay them. This huge pouring in of gold is causing some of the yelling that is getting on my nerves.
Another factor in today's excitement is that there are rumors that Mansa Musa isn't going to meet with the sultan! This man is of the same class as Mansa Musa, and that should persuade my leader to go there even more! Some people have gotten explanations for this surprising fact, including my new friend named Emir Abu. According to him, Mansa Musa said, "I came for the Pilgrimage and nothing else." That is the obvious cause of our king's weird behavior but Abu says that Mansa Musa might have just not wanted to kiss the ground and the sultan's hand like all visitors are supposed to! I find it very interesting that this man of supreme generosity might have such a big fear of not being the most important one. This shall definitely go into my book that I am writing. It will probably attract a lot of attention, and as to not offend the king, I shall change the name and tweak the context. I should probably get moving now. I have had enough of a break.
